InteliDerm Clinical Evidence: A Proven System for Moisture Removal and Temperature Reduction <\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

The InteliDerm\u2122 Powered Skin Protection System<\/u><\/strong><\/a> was lab tested and compared to standard manual prone positioning foam to evaluate its effectiveness at temperature reduction and sweat\/moisture removal. To understand the results of this testing, we must first understand what to anticipate in sedentary patients regarding sweat rates and temperature.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Regarding temperature regulation, a therapeutic surface should be kept at a temperature below 95 degrees1 <\/sup>to avoid increases in sweating. A product that keeps the skin temperature at a predictable temperature of less than 95 degrees would be optimal. Testing shows that manual prone foam creates an environment where the skin temperature is approximately 96.5 degrees, a temperature at which the skin would remain warm, thereby experiencing increased sweating. In contrast, with the InteliDerm Face Pack, the anticipated skin temperature would be around 88 degrees; and, with the InteliDerm Chest Wedge, skin temperature is around 94.4 degrees, keeping the skin cool enough to discourage increased sweating.<\/p>\n

In addition to temperature reduction properties, testing was also performed on the ability of the InteliDerm System to remove moisture with results compared to manual prone foam. Previous studies have shown that the anticipated sweat rates of sedentary patients can range from 10 up to 50 g\/m2<\/sup>\/hr2,3<\/sup>. The goal of the active microclimate management in InteliDerm was to be above this range to remove all potential anticipated sweat a patient could produce.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The manual prone foam was found to have a moisture removal rate within the anticipated sweat range of patients at 16-20 g\/m2<\/sup>\/hr, meaning that the manual prone foam would likely become saturated with moisture if a patient has a sweat rate above 20 g\/m2<\/sup>\/hr. The InteliDerm Face Pack was found to have significant moisture removal properties, acting to remove moisture at a rate of 190 g\/m2<\/sup>\/hr, or almost 4 times the greatest anticipated rate a patient would sweat. The InteliDerm Chest Wedge also removed moisture at above the anticipated sweat rate of patients, at 52 g\/m2<\/sup>\/hr.<\/p>\n
