Prone Positioning and Dialysis

Critically ill patients who require the prone position often need additional interventions that are crucial to recovery. One such intervention is dialysis, or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), for acute kidney injury (AKI). CRRT is a form of renal replacement that provides blood purification and/or fluid balance.1

During the prone positioning maneuver, it is essential to monitor and secure invasive lines such as dialysis lines, and the risk of displacement of these lines could be a potential barrier to implementing the prone position itself. Pronova-O2™ Automated Prone Therapy provides many advantages when caring for critically ill patients, including the Critical Line Management system located on the head hoop. This line management system allows for upper invasive line securement to reduce risk for tube and line dislodgement during position changes. Even for patients who have femoral access lines, the tubing is secured through the foot opening of Pronova-O2 to reduce tube dislodgement risk during position changes.

Another advantage of Pronova-O2 Automated Prone Therapy for dialysis patients is the ability to control the position change of prone to supine and vice versa. Pronova-O2’s automated position changes can be paused at any time to reduce tube dislodgement risk and ensure line securement through the head hoop or foot opening.

The Pronova-O2 Automated Prone Therapy System provides a safe and efficient method for positioning critically ill patients. Refer to Pronova-O2 Instructions for Use for full prescribing information including risks.
