Nurses: More than just compassionate caregivers
By Kim Steed, RN
Ever wonder what the “most trusted profession” might be? According to Johns Hopkins for the past 23 years, nursing has been recognized as number one1! Nurses are widely recognized for their compassion and dedication to patient care. The public often perceives nursing as a “doing” profession, where individuals are drawn to the field due to their strong moral values and desire to help others. However, nursing is far more than compassionate individuals providing bedside care for sick patients.
Nursing is a profession that requires critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership. Nurses undergo extensive training to master a vast body of knowledge and must continue their education throughout their careers to stay up to date with the ever-evolving medical field. With the constant advancements in technology and medical research, ongoing education is essential to providing the highest quality care for patients2.
While nurses are commonly associated with bedside care in hospitals, nursing homes, and doctor’s offices, the profession offers a wide range of career opportunities. After spending 15 years as a bedside nurse, I transitioned to a role in the medical device industry. Initially, I worried that I would lose the direct impact I had on patients’ lives, but I quickly realized that my role in this new field allowed me to make an even greater difference. Working at Turn Medical has shown me the profound impact that nurses can have beyond traditional healthcare settings.
At Turn Medical, our core pillars—impact, compassion, value, and accountability—are evident in everything we do. Our team, scientific advisors, and customers constantly inspire and encourage us. We have all witnessed firsthand the life-changing effects of our work.
This year, the American Organization of Nurse Leaders (AONL) has designated the theme for National Nurses Week 2025 as “Care, Lead, Inspire – Repeat3.” This theme resonates deeply with our team here at Turn Medical, as it aligns perfectly with our reasons for doing what we do. We are committed to empowering nurses by designing innovative products that transform patient care as well as developing AACN-accredited programs via Turn University, and competency training focused on hands-on training.
Our goal is to partner with and support you as we ensure that nurses have all the tools they need to excel in their roles and provide the best possible outcomes. Contact us today to schedule a demonstration or training session and discover how Turn Medical can enhance your nursing practice!
